I am writing the first Ear to the Streets Newsletter from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia. I am en route to Eswatini to begin Fisher Talent Group.
Presently, I am the only staff member. My first task is hiring an Eswatini Scouting Manager and Videographer and onboarding a scouting network. I am fundraising for these positions and operating costs. If I cannot hire paid staff, I will begin with interns. The Scouting Manager, Videographer, and scouting network are critical to discovering and promoting marginalized youth football players in rural Africa. Upon arrival, I will reconnect with folks I knew from the Peace Corps. I have kept in touch, and each offers knowledge of rural Eswatini and its football landscape. They are invaluable, and I have many in mind to fill the positions I mentioned. Additionally, I will reconnect with former players and build Fisher Talent Group's scouting network. Everyone I am considering will strengthen us from diverse angles.
Fisher Talent Group's biggest challenge will be the lack of addresses in rural Eswatini. Therefore, connecting with local Swazis and committing to a scouting map is vital. Everything is feasible, and we will develop footholds in rural communities over time. We will consistently have our "ear to the streets" and uncover talented kids.
In time, Fisher Talent Group will have paid scouts, regional managers, and videographers in every African country. This idea is doable with hard work.
